Originally opened in 1917 as Saints Peter & Paul Russian Orthodox Church, Holy Assumption is a handsome, historic church serving Orthodox Christians on the city's South Side.
The Russian Orthodox Church dates back to the 1400s after Kiev's Prince Vladimir introduced Christianity to Moscovy.
Holy Assumption's exterior is similiar to many Orthodox churches, with arches and an onion dome roof. The church is rich with beautiful icon paintings, especially in the worship center which is dominated by a beautiful chandelier. The basement has multi-purpose space that is used for classes, lectures and other events.
