Ruth's Chris Steak House is the largest fine dining restaurant company in the United States, as measured by the number of restaurants. Their menu features a broad selection of high quality USDA Prime grade steaks and other premium offerings served in Ruth's Chris' "sizzling" signature fashion, which is topped with seasoned butter and complemented by other traditional menu items inspired by the company's New Orleans heritage. They offer a dining experience that appeals to families and special occasion diners, in addition to the business clientele traditionally served by fine dining steakhouses.
Ruth's Chris Steak House was founded in 1965 when Ruth Fertel mortgaged her home for $22,000 to purchase the "Chris Steak House," a 60-seat restaurant located near the New Orleans Fair Grounds racetrack. Today, there are over 100 Ruth's Chris Steak House restaurants, including international franchisee-owned restaurants in Mexico, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Canada. In Pittsburgh, Ruth's operates a restaurant in downtown's PPG Place.
PPG Place is a magnificent cathedral of glass and is home to PPG Industries as well as other major Pittsburgh companies.
Located next to historic Market Square on five and one-half acres, the six building complex surrounds a one-acre grand plaza which is home to various events and activities in the summer months; from mid-November to early March it is transformed into a spectacular skating rink. During the holidays, a stunning 65-foot Christmas tree dominates the plaza.
The restaurant is open Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.; Friday & Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.; and Sunday, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
PPG Place has its own parking garage on Third Avenue. There are other lots and garages nearby. For more information, call (412) 323-4455.
