Loosely inspired by the career of Ruth St. Denis, performance artist Lionel Popkin uses this show to question the acts of cultural sourcing, representation and transmission.

Ruth St. Denis (1879-1968) was a modern dance pioneer, introducing eastern ideas into the art. The piece serves as a way for Popkin, who is half Jewish and half Indian, to wrestle with his own uncertainties and awkwardness with representations of South Asia.
