Marcus Rediker, a profesor at the University Of Pittsburgh, will be speaking about his new book, "The Amistad Rebellion: An Atlantic Odyssey Of Slavery & Freedom."
The book offers a new approach to the famous Amistad revolt of 1839, in which 53 captive Africans threw off their chains, captured their slave ship and ultimately won a long legal battle and the right to return to their native land in Sierra Leone. This handful of self-emancipated Africans opened a way for millions to follow.
