Noted photographer Stephen Chalmers stages his his first major exhibition in the Pittsburgh area.
"Transience" is a project in which he photographed and interviewed individuals who live a transitory life --- primarily those who live within recreational vehicles. Chalmers draws on the inspiration of acclaimed documentary photographer Dorthea Lange (1895-1965) and award winning author John Steinbeck (1902-1968) who created works on transient populations during the Great Depression. These portraits, which are shown in conjunction with landscape images of the spaces they occupy, are both of the affluent and also those of limited means (including methamphetamine addicts, ex-convicts, and others choosing to live off the grid) in the desert southwest.
