Composed in 1816, Gioachino Rossini’s (1792-1868) comic opera is about a love-struck count trying to win the heart of a young maiden with the help of his former servant, Figaro.
“Barber” was the first Italian opera ever performed in America, premiering at the Park Theater in New York on November 29, 1825.
