One of the most romantic musicals of all time, "West Side Story," is staged with a cast of talented students.
The story is set in the mid-1950's on the Upper West Side of New York City. The musical explores the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds. Loosely based off of William Shakespeare's play "Romeo & Juliet", Tony, one of the Jets, falls in love with Maria, the sister of the leader of the Sharks. The dark theme, sophisticated music, extended dance scenes and focus on social problems marked a turning point in American musical theater and is very relevant to teenagers today.
More than 75 students are involved in this riveting production, that will appeal to the devout theater fanatic as well as those new to the art form, and everyone in between. For show times and tickets, call (412) 968-3040.
