A sterling production of Giacomo Puccini´s (1858-1924) legendary 1904 opera, which was based in part on the 1898 short story by John Luther Long.

Set in 1890s Japan, the story focuses on a 15-year-old geisha named Butterfly who and gives up everything she has known to marry a U. S. sailor --- a relationship that leads to tragedy.
