Famed conductor Manfred Honeck leads the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in a special work called "The Gift" commissioned to honor the orchestra's chairman, Richard P. Simmons.
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut and graduated from Massachusetts Institute Of Technology in 1953, Richard P. Simmons once led Allegheny Ludlum Corporation and has sat on the boards of major companies such as US Airways and PNC Bank. He is currently an adjunct professor at Carnegie-Mellon University.
In addition to "The gift," the orchestra will perform German composer Ludwig van Beethoven's (1770-1827) final symphonic masterpiece which is considered one of the most recognizable pieces of all time.
