Superstar violinist Joshua Bell joins the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in performing American composer Leonard Bernstein's (1918-1990) heart-wrenching "Serenade," a piece he dedicated to the memory of his mentor --- the legendary Russian conductor Serge Koussevitzky (1874-1951).
The program also includes composer Mason Bates' electronic "Desert Transport," which depicts the Arizona desert as seen from above in a helicopter. In addition, Spanish conductor Juanjo Mena leads the orchestra in German composer Johannes Brahms' (1883-1897) stunning "Third Symphony," a reigning example of the deeply personal music composed during the Romantic era.
