British conductor Michael Francis makes his Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra debut leading the orchestra in a popular work by Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) and works by three Czech composers.
The program's highlight is a performance of Mozart's 40th symphony, which begins darkly and builds with a series of rapidly ascending notes. Acclaimed German violinist Christian Tetzlaff then performs works by Czech composers Antonín Dvořák (1841–1904), Bedřich Smetana (1824–1884) and Leoš Janáček (1854–1928).
