Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was a painter, printmaker and filmmaker who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. After a successful career as a commercial illustrator, Warhol became famous worldwide for his work as a painter, avant-garde filmmaker, record producer, author and public figure known for his membership in wildly diverse social circles that included bohemian street people, distinguished intellectuals, Hollywood celebrities and wealthy aristocrats.

Buddhist Vesak Celebration

Join the Buddhist Society Of Pittsburgh for their annual celebration honoring Siddhartha Shakyamuni Buddha's birth, enlightenment and parinirvana ("complete awakening").

Siddhartha Shakyamuni Buddha (563 BCE - 483 BCE) was a spiritual teacher from the Indian subcontinent, on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. Buddhists have celebrated Vesak for nearly 2,600 years. Buddhism is practiced around the world by many traditions and the Buddhist Society Of Pittsburgh brings many of these diverse traditions together for this unique annual event. Various Buddhist groups from the area will offer their own ceremonies, chants and prayers to share their loving kindness for the world.

Highlights of the event will include chanting, offerings, sutra recitation, a dharma talk, group meditation, and a short walk to the Allegheny Landing to offer blessed waters with the wishes of world peace.
