Ukrainian-born pianist Valentina Lisitsa --- whose videos on the web site YouTube have become a world-wide sensation --- joins the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra for some incredible classical music.
The program's highlight is Lisitsa performing Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg's (1843-1907) much-loved "Piano Concerto". The second half of the program features a musical trip to the Mediterranean including one of French composer Maurice Ravel's (1875-1937) first works for orchestra, "Rapsodie Espagnole", which was inspired by the Spanish folk tunes sung by his mother when Ravel was a child.

Noted conductor Manfred Honeck leads the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in a musical journey through the works of Austrian composer Gustav Mahler (1860-1911).
As a composer, Mahler acted as a bridge between the 19th century Austro-German tradition and the modernism of the early 20th century. This program features his technically and musically demanding seventh symphony, a grand work composed at a tumultuous time in the composer's life.

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra officially closes its 2012-2013 season with a special guest: young Chinese piano virtuoso Yuja Wang.
Born in 1987, Yuja Wang began studying piano there at age six, and went on to study at the Central Conservatory Of Music in Beijing. In this program, she performs Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's (1840-1893) first piano concerto. Its recognizable opening is sure to put a smile on your face that lasts throughout this lush and treasured piece.

Internationally acclaimed trumpeter and composer Chris Botti joins the Pittsburgh Symphony Pops Orchestra and conductor Marvin Hamlisch to perform great pop tunes.
