Liberty Avenue become a veritable living funny pages block party with visits by popular cartoon characters Betty Boop, Popeye, Olive Oyl, Dennis The Menace and the Care Bears. Fun vendors, art activities, chalk artists and caricaturists and will round out the festivities and help to literally draw a crowd.
In addition to the street festival, events are happening in at the nearby ToonSeum, Bricolage Theater and the August Wilson Center.

"Cell Phone Disco" is Pittsburgh’s first outdoor, art+science interactive installation.
The installation visualizes the electromagnetic field of an active mobile phone. A giant, 16' x 16’ light screen receives electromagnetic data from a receiver that continuously scans cell phone usage through 16 antennas. The data is fed to eight processors that are embedded in the digital display, illuminating 2,034 individually controlled LED lights in an unprecedented pattern.

Two bronze hand-casted magnolia trees, showcasing nearly 800 hand-sculpted flowers each, are set within a garden created by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust to create a little magic in the middle of the district.
