Buddhist Vesak Celebration
Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church  [ venue info ]
6/19/2013 3pm

Join the Buddhist Society Of Pittsburgh for their annual celebration honoring Siddhartha Shakyamuni Buddha's birth, enlightenment and parinirvana ("complete awakening").

Siddhartha Shakyamuni Buddha (563 BCE - 483 BCE) was a spiritual teacher from the Indian subcontinent, on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. Buddhists have celebrated Vesak for nearly 2,600 years. Buddhism is practiced around the world by many traditions and the Buddhist Society Of Pittsburgh brings many of these diverse traditions together for this unique annual event. Various Buddhist groups from the area will offer their own ceremonies, chants and prayers to share their loving kindness for the world.

Highlights of the event will include chanting, offerings, sutra recitation, a dharma talk, group meditation, and a short walk to the Allegheny Landing to offer blessed waters with the wishes of world peace.

Admission is free and everyone is welcome. For more information, call Bhante Pemaratana at (724) 295-2525.
