Meet at the center to join local comedian Jimmy Krenn for an evening of sipping, sampling and strolling through the Strip District.
The Strip District is a neighborhood located along the Allegheny River that has traditionally housed the city's produce wholesalers and now includes unique specialty businesses.
Savor the flavors of the Strip District with delicious food and drink tastings and surprises at 20 of your favorite Strip businesses and explore new ones. For those who prefer to ride rather than stroll, the Pittsburgh Tour Company's circulating double decker bus will be cruising the Strip District throughout the event.
Proceeds benefit Neighbors In The Strip, which promotes economic development opportunities, while preserving the personality, integrity and character of the Strip. Tickets are available from ShowClix by calling (888) 718-4253.
More than 25 four-person teams will showcase their bocce skills and participate in a day of fun across the street from the center.
Bocce is a ball sport with an ancestry that dates back to the ancient games played in the Roman Empire. A game can be conducted between two players, or two teams of two, three or four. The team with the closest ball to the jack is the only team that can score points in any frame. The scoring team receives one point for each of their balls that is closer to a small ball called "jack" than the closest ball of the other team. The length of a game varies by region, but is typically from 7 to 13 points.
Spectators will enjoy Italian food and beverages provided by Common Plea Catering and Italian-themed music from Pure Gold and other local bands.
Admission is free for spectators. Event proceeds benefit the Italian American Program Endowment Fund, which is dedicated to preserving the history and culture of Italian Americans in Western Pennsylvania. For more information or to sponsor a team, please contact Mark Burnett at (412) 454-6405.
