Romantics celebrate St. Valentine's Day on Thursday February 14, 2013.
Named after one or more early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine, the holiday celebrates love and affection between intimate companions. It was established as a relgious holiday in 496 CE by Pope Gelasius I and later became associated with romantic love in the circle of English poet Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.
