Collage Acetate

Kids are welcome to join the folks from the Andy Warhol Museum --- the largest museum dedicated to a single artist --- to create unique artwork using collage and acetate.

The acetate imagery will be spring themed which will include bugs and floral patterns.

Marble Mania

Come to a celebration of the sport and art of marbles.

As the nation's center of glass production for more than 100 years, this is also a region with a tradition of marble making and collecting. There are also more than three dozen national marble champions from Allegheny County.

Meet past champions and learn their tricks for success in the ring. See the work of current marble makers and take home a new treasure or maybe a collectible. And learn from a noted author on the subject.

The day also includes the premiere of a new documentary film which looks at two Pittsburgh boys as they compete at the local level and then for the national championship. For more information, call (412) 454-6000.

From Slavery To Freedom Ceramics Workshop

Take part in this enlightening workshop to learn about the origins of a stoneware pitcher featured in the museum's long-term From "Slavery To Freedom" exhibit and then decorate your own replica to take home.

"From Slavery To Freedom" highlights the history of the anti-slavery movement, the Underground Railroad and the impact of 19th century activism on the modern quest for civil and human rights in Pittsburgh.

Autism is a disorder of neural development that is characterized by impaired social interaction and communication and by restricted and repetitive behavior. Every 15 minutes, another family receives the devastating news that their child has an autism spectrum disorder.

Shop Featured Artist: Amber Coppings

Stop by the center's gift shop to see a special display of local artist Amber Coppings' textile designs.

Hand- and machine- sewn applique details are art-inspired, geometric and are handcut from pieces of organic cottons, bamboo rayons and cotton jerseys that are hand-dyed with shibori techniques or digitally designed by Amber Coppings in her Lawrenceville studio. This allows for the most artistic expression and enhances the handmade nature of each individual piece. Other items being featured are hand-dyed infinity scarves, lightweight "Suzi" Hoodie Cape Vests and sumptuous handbraided organic cotton belts with vintage buckles.

The Blacklight Project

As part of the museum's year-long 35th anniversary celebration, explore the permanent collection with a project inspired by Yayoi Kusama and James Turrell.

Born in 1929, Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist and writer whose work reflects her thematic interest in psychedelic colors, repetition and pattern.

Born in 1943, James Turrell is an American artist primarily concerned with light and space who is currently turning a natural cinder volcanic crater into a massive naked-eye observatory.

Participants will create unique sculptural objects and check out their glow-factor in a custom-built black-light booth. For more information, call (412) 231-3169.
