PG Benchmarks: Air Quality Index

Sunday, February 24, 2002

Air Quality Index is the number of days in that year that the concentration of ozone, carbon monoxide, particulates and sulfur dioxide in the air people breathe is greater than 100, which puts it in the unhealthy range. PM is the concentration in micrograms (10 and 2.5) of particulate matter per cubic meter at the highest monitoring site in the metropolitan area. A value of 50 or more puts the area above the federal health standard.
