James Wright Festival schedule Sunday, April 09, 2000
The James Wright Poetry Festival will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the Martins Ferry Public Library, 20 James Wright Square, which is a block of Fifth Street renamed in honor of the poet.
Except for a panel discussion at Martins Ferry High School, all events are at the library.
Friday 7 p.m. -- Annie Wright opens the festival. 7:30 p.m. -- Poetry reading by Kevin Stein. 8:30 p.m. -- Poetry reading by Robert Bly.
Saturday 9 a.m. -- Writers' workshop led by James Gorman. 10 a.m. -- Panel discussion of Wright's poetry at Martins Ferry High School. 1:30 p.m. -- Peter Stitt discusses his work on Wright's biography. 2:30 p.m. -- Stein discusses Wright's achievements. 3:30 p.m. -- Music by Early Interval. 4:30 p.m. -- Reflections of Wright's work by Carolyn Kizer, Galway Kinnell and Bly. 5:30 p.m. -- Dinner. 7 p.m. -- Reading by Carol Bly. 8 p.m. -- Reading by Kinnell. 9 p.m. -- Reception. 10 p.m. -- Open mike readings.
Next Sunday 9 a.m. -- Writer's workshop led by Gorman. 11 a.m. -- Poetry reading by Maggie Anderson. Noon -- Poetry reading by Kizer.
Cost: $60 at the door and $50 for students, which includes dinner. A Saturday lunch is an additional $6.

Directions from Pittsburgh: Take U.S. Route 22-30 west to Steubenville, Ohio, then Ohio Route 7 south to Martins Ferry. Turn right on Hanover Street, then left on James Wright Place.
