The Post-Gazette's critics pick their favorites

Financially speaking, 2002 was a tough year, leaving the business of the arts in distress. The symphony sounded the financial alarm. We nearly lost Pittsburgh Musical Theater. Museums cut staff. Even CD sales slumped.

Only Hollywood really seemed to come out on the winning end.

Still, the show had to go on. And what we actually saw on stage, on screen, in the galleries and concert halls was as strong as ever.

Now, let's stop to put the year of 2002 in the record books with a look back at the best of the best.
